As one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans, the Type 2 gave rise to forward control competitors such as the Citroën H Van, Renault Estafette (both FF layout), and the FR layout Ford Transit. Like the Beetle, the van has received numerous nicknames worldwide, including the “Microbus”, “Minibus”, and, because of its popularity during the counterculture movement of the 1960s, Hippie Van, and still remains iconic for many hippies today. In Brazil T2 series of Type 2 continued to be made, until production ceased on December 31, 2013. This marked the end of the era of rear-engine Volkswagens manufactured, which originated in 1935 with their Type 1 prototypes.This superb VW Camper van is described by the vendor, as probably the only van in this condition in the U.K. This vehicle has won “Best in Class” at several Classic Car Shows and is well known by followers of the VW Split Screen Club. It was originally owned by the German Fire Brigade. There is a huge collection of extras including spare wheels and tyres, a custom made red and white awning, and a front apron to protect against stone chips.
