1971 Brazilian VW Split Screen Camper Van Base

….This is a 1971 Brazilian LHD VW Split Screen Camper Base. It was imported to the UK from Brazil in late April 2018. All Duty and taxes paid. NOVA registered. MOT Exempt Road Tax Exempt Cheap Classic Car Insurance. It comes without bench seats so is ready to go for a camper conversion, but until you are ready to do that it is a great runaround van (which is what it was used for back in the old country). As the vehicle is over 40 years old it is exempt from road tax and MOT. Here is a direct quote from the www.gov.uk website “When the rules change on 20 May 2018, vehicles meeting the criteria won’t need an MOT from the 40th anniversary of when they were registered.Example If a car was first registered on 31 May 1978, it won’t need an MOT from 31 May 2018.What drivers will need to do : Drivers won’t have to apply to stop getting an MOT for their vehicle. However, each time they tax their historic vehicle (even if they don’t pay a fee), drivers will have to declare it meets the rules for not needing an MOT.Drivers must still keep their vehicle in a roadworthy condition. They can be fined up to £2,500 and get 3 penalty points for using a vehicle in a dangerous condition”There are a couple of small holes in the cargo floor but it is generally pretty solid. The previous owner had it for 10 years and he decided to sell due to the rising value of these buses over in Sao Paulo. They are a good investment. The bodywork is pretty good and straight, with the odd chip to the paintwork here and there. The underside is a bit tatty, and it would do no harm to replace the cargo floor due to the fact that it does have a couple of small holes in it, but there appears to be very little, if any welding required. There is some surface rust beneath, (which is to be expected even in a hot country like Brazil where any rainfall soon evaporates) but nothing to cause concern. The brakes could do with some attention, the electrics work, the battery has difficulty holding charge and would benefit from a new one but horn, lights, indicators are all good. The steering has quite a bit of slack in it so will need adjusting, The engine is sound and the gears have a fair bit of play, which again is quite the norm. Below are some you tube videos showing the overall condition of the vehicle with functioning electrics, and it driving along the street in Sao Paulo just before it shipped over to the UK in Feb18. Just cut and paste… https://youtu.be/3tWm6HWlQnI https://youtu.be/43uVOwFrsKI https://youtu.be/nIxe3IQolas https://youtu.be/cXVAtj8sY4Q In the video the engine lid is resting on the bumper, and does catch slightly but is easily put right. I have many more photos so please drop me a line if you have any questions or require more pictures. These buses do live a full life, and so although the mileage says 54,003 Km (33,200Miles), it would be a fair assumption that she has been round the clock. I can obtain a quote for delivery by recovery truck if required, but it is estimated to be around the £300 mark for a round trip of about 300 miles. It will need to be transported by trailer until it is registered and has UK number plates…. The vehicle will need to be registered with DVLA (£55) and once that is complete the new owner will have their name as the 1st UK owner on the V5C log book(quoted by DVLA as up to 6 weeks). The next stage is to get number plates made up with the new UK registration, and the vehicle is entitled to use the black and silver ones as it was registered before 1 January 1975. www.classicplatesonline.co.uk This is a really nice bus with good condition bodywork and a nice light interior. The orange and cream colour scheme is striking and although there are a few bits which do need attention (steering and brakes), she is a lovely bus and will make a great base for a camper conversion.
