1981 Volkswagen T25 Westfalia Joker automatic LHD campervan low miles T3 LPG gas

….Here for reluctant sale is my 1981 VW T25 (or T3, if you prefer) Westfalia Joker camper van. It has an mot until August 2018 and is a rare automatic version. It has a 2.0 litre air cooled engine with twin carburettors which has been LPG Gas converted for better fuel economy. It has covered just 89,000 miles (139k kilometres), drives very well and is in very good general condition. The van, being a Westfalia, has a very well thought out conversion and has all the camping gear installed, including: Rock and roll bed with seatbelts fittedTrumatic blown air heating (working well)3 way fridge (gas, 240v and electric – all working)2 burner gas hob (working)Underslung gas tank to supply the above (no need for gas bottles taking up cupboard space)Sink with tap and on board water tank – believed to be working, but never used by us (no key for filler cap)Split charge 2 battery system240v mains with UK plug socketsWestfalia double glazed windows to the rear and sidesLoads of really useful cupboard space.Table Non standard extras include: Reimo fitted high top roofFiamma wind-out awningRear bike rackLPG system fitted with tank in spare wheel well (can of tyre weld on board for emergencies, spare wheel included in sale). Also, because it’s a high top, you get two extra bunks in the roof, more cupboard space and you can stand up easily in it. The Reimo roof was fitted in Germany but later in the van’s life, I believe it may have been a pop-top originally. This is the van I always wanted – the Westy high top with everything you need and LPG converted to boot. I had it tuned recently at the legendary ‘Gasure’ air cooled VW specialist in Chester, it will start from cold on gas and runs really well. It cruises at a decent speed (for a T25) and the LPG means it’s affordable to run. It passed it’s mot in August with only one advisory – an oil leak. It’s solid underneath and has had lots of work done. It’s for sale for two reasons – it’s stored on the drive at my house, which is about to be sold and I don’t have enough parking where I’m moving to, and lack of use – we have only been for day trips in it this year. Last year we had some great times including a trip down to Cornwall in it, visiting Lantic Bay, Mullion Cove and Lizard Point. Earlier this year I spent over £1200 at a local VW air-cooled specialist having new brakes (discs, pads, wheel bearings, replacement callipers), new fuel lines in the engine bay and the push rod tubes renewing (to address an oil leak). Since this work was done, the van has leaked oil from the rocker covers on both sides. I took it back to them a couple of months later, they even had the cheek to charge me again despite me pointing out on the itemised bill that they had replaced these as part of the push rod job only 2 months previous, I eventually had the second charge refunded but annoyingly it still leaks oil from the rocker covers which will need addressing sooner rather than later. Any competent VW mechanic should have no problem sorting this out at a very small cost. Bodywork: The van looks great in the photos, and I have had some bodywork carried out during my ownership, but as most T25 owners will tell you, rust is an ongoing problem. This van has several areas of rust bubbling through the paint, and the previous paint job doesn’t seem to have been prepped as well as it should have been in some areas. That said, the van is much admired and is in better shape than most T25’s that I have seen. I know I am going to regret selling it. The interior was ‘freshened up’ by the previous owner, the original curtains are still there underneath the replacements and I’m told the original seat material is still there too. I have never tried to remove these covers, which I personally think look great so didn’t feel the need to change. I would recommend viewing the van and will make myself available as much as possible to enable this. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
