….VW camper Early bay 1971 Devon Conversions Relisted i must point out why. A. this is not the original colour it was red and resprayed by a past owner a Porsche colour Sunshine yellow. B.there is rust on this vehicle especially underneath ( yes surely a no-brainer for a 40 year old vehicle ) these vans have issues and always will even super expensive ones, therefore i clearly state this is, and always wiil be, an ongoing project. Where do i start ? Well i have always wanted one of these and spent a great deal of time looking and saving until i thought i found a good deal on a good honest Camper. These Early bays are a lovely design having all the rounded features of yesteryear yet some of the improvements that came later on. Notably the front disc brakes which help you stop so much better than before. Have spent lots on her 7k alone for van over 1k in parts and most recently £1500 to get her through he latest mot. Admittedly…this sounds a tad heavy but what it means in the long run is there are no nasties hidden from the new owner mostly just tidying her up and fixing minor niggles dealing with any rust etc ….also stamping your own individuality on this camper. This sadly left me with little in the way of ready cash as I was really hoping to use her this summer and now unfortunately just don’t have the cash to finish the van the way i would like too and go to all the shows which cost too. That and a new job looming forces a sale.. :/ She is called Sunflower by the way. The highlights Fresh tax and mot [ expires 30 july 2014 ] New battery Carb reconditioned and new inlet seals and gaskets. New HT leads New exhaust New seals on sliding door, engine hatch, passenger door [ though cracking ?! already ] New seat belts New seals and covers for lights. …lots more bits here and there, we also have boxes of stuff and parts along with a Haynes manual… also some cards for interior and curtains made to fit ! large awning too ! Okay i believe that’s most things i should note that i forgot to re-affix the chrome hubcaps before taking those pics. Will add a picture asap as they come with sale. This van starts and drives You are bidding to buy not to come look…only Bid if you are certain you want her [ Come see her ,she is barely 2 minutes drive from Junction 20 of the M5 ] Questions ask away else please inspect pictures carefully. they may already contain the answer ! Collection only. No low bidders….unless you are super serious, just send me a mail first thanks else i may ignore your bids…NO buy it now Payment preference is electronically….. On 04-Aug-13 at 12:17:46 BST, seller added the following information: Usually i would be out working on her but seeing it is raining i thought i would try to cover anything i may have missed off. Yesterday i fitted the new battery along with some new chrome rocker covers and rocker cover gaskets. I was going to work on a little corrosion on the rear hatch today if it dries up at all. I have had a few mails regarding my comments about the underneath….most is protected by a belly pan and sealant along with any rot being cut out and dealt with appropriately i will add pictures again when weather subsides but bear in mind these are no substitute for coming to see it with your own two eyes. I have two boxes of bits that i will list here in a little more detail. – Chrome surrounds for back-lights [ older type too small for current covers ] – more rear covers for back-lights 2x new & some older also a seal or two [ though new seals are currently fitted on vehicle ] – oil cooler [ new ] – 2x new generator and fan/pulley belts [ new ] – various gromits and clips for interior fixing – aftermarket filter to fit atop carb’ [ currently has original oil filter fitted ] – felt runners for both door windows. – rubber blade type seal again for door window. – spare accelerator cable [ new one just fitted...but always goo to have a spare ! ] – haynes manual no.082 – new locks various types [ most are new on vehicle ] – various gaskets to cover engine and ancillaries [ should be enough to rebuild engine twice over.... ..maybe ? ] – How to keep your Volkswagen alive by. john Muir – the previously stated door and interior cards, they are a little shabby now but make awesome templates to re-cut or re-cover with fresh fabric. – made to measure interior curtains …white with multi-colour lollipops i believe [ minimalistic ] – various other tid-bits bolts and spare bits for sliding door…all-sorts really. will update if i significantly more to list…also will continue to see too and list any more issues as i find them. any questions ask away…..J.

….Hello this is Lemmy. Lemmy is a lovely 1974 type 2, bay window deluxe, 7 seater VW minibus with an 1800 air cooled engine. He is a Californian left hand drive import and is completely dry with no rust and I have retained his original colours. I am the second owner from new. The bus was originally used in Los Angeles as a transporter minibus for hotel customers being picked up from LAX airport, and has a DPD manufactured air con system which is currently not operational as I am not a fridge engineer! but I do have the operating instruction manual for it. Lots of info on US Volkswagen forums and quite a few wanted posts too. This air con unit could be taken out and resold back to the USA Restorations I have lovingly restored Lemmy over a period of 2 years and replaced original items that were beyond any TLC. Included in the refurbishment is: New front discs and pads, new shoes and a rear brake overhaul. New clutch, new tyres, new headlights and new Californian marker lights and the rear red ones do work. I have kept the original minibus interior and have renewed the front seat horse hair pads and replaced the covers with the original basket-weave vinyl. All the body work has been restored completely and re-sprayed back to the original beige colour, as part of the body work restoration, I have replaced with new the inner, outer and centre sills, both battery trays have been replaced. Both rear wheel arches replaced. The rest of the body is rock solid. A new front windscreen has been put in and all new rubbers on all the other windows replaced. The windows also have new chrome deluxe window trims. Every seat has a seat belt as standard Californian law. The engine was completely stripped back and all bearings replaced, a new oil pump and fuel pump fitted. The carburetors have been rebuilt and refurbished and the battery replaced with a new one. Rings and pistons were fine. This is a good solid powerful engine. As I said earlier the interior has been kept as original just a refurbishment to the front seats as the rear seats didn’t require any further work in my opinion. The Kenwood radio cassette works fine and the van now has two 12volt aux points one in the glove-box. Roadworthiness Lemmy is MOT’d until FEB 2015 Taxed until June 2014 – And will be tax exempt from next year with new government rulings on classic vehicles. Extra information I have kept receipts from all the restoration work that I have had completed and have also a comprehensive folder of original documentation from California. I am only the second owner of Lemmy and the original owner retained much of the original documentation from when the van was new, which I also have. A full comprehensive history will be sold with the bus. This includes the original purchase invoices showing chosen options and stamped service manuals and the owners manual. If the minibus interior is not to your liking, although these are becoming more popular for weddings and other parties, you can replace the minibus interior with the more popular campervan interior for approximately £800 pounds. If you are interested in coming to see Lemmy that would be great but please look at the pictures and read all the information first and contact me if you have any further questions as I don’t want any tyre kickers or time wasters. I am selling Lemmy only because I have purchased a splitscreen van that needs my time and TLC so Lemmy deserves to go to a new home. I am after a quick sale for Lemmy and the price is realistic for a van of this calibre.
