1972 VW T2 Bay Window Camper Van

….For sale our 1972 cross over VW bay window van. We have owned her for just over 9 years in which time we have had her serviced annually and never failed an MoT until 2016. In our ownership the odometer has gone past maximum and read 8091 at the time of the last MoT two years ago and hasn’t been driven since. She failed the MoT on four reasons: 1. Uneven front brake application; 2. Body has a sharp edge caused by corrosion (both front out arches); 3. Body or chassis has excessive corrosion seriously affecting it’s strength within 30cm of the body mountings; and 4. Steering system has excessive free play detected at the steering wheel. Since than we have been torn between our heads and hearts whether to restore her or not but have finally decided it’s best to let her go to someone who can care for her as she needs to be cared for. The images show the worst of the rust and there is more minor corrosion on the rear rain gutter and around the bottom of the body work. The engine starts and runs ok and has a stainless steel exhaust fitted. More photos are available (eBay limits me to 12) and I’ll happily take more of any areas of the van you wish to see more of, just ask and I’ll email them over. She currently sits on our drive under cover (not included) so if you’re keen and serious please arrange to come and view her – I’ll be available anytime while the auction is open. She’s not insured, has had no MoT since 2016 and despite now being exempt I will not be comfortable with her being taken for a test drive only a static start up, sorry. I’ll let the auction run so no ‘how much for buy it now’ please. Cash preferred but payment by PayPal otherwise though with a non-refundable £50 deposit to be paid within 24 hours of the sale to cover fees should you change your mind. It goes without saying buyer collects and serious bidders only.

VW Westfalia Early Bay Camper Van

Superb condition

….Here we have for sale a restored VW T2 Bay window in superb head turning condition. Has been in England for nearly 9 years but was originally a Californian import. I bought it two years ago from a chap who imported it himself and then, as he had a large collection of VW’s, let it sit for 7 years whilst he decided what to do with it. Cutting a long story short, I then bought it and set about getting it ready for use.It has had a full respray, done about 18 months ago and it’s a good quality job. I have always wanted a Deluxe model and painted it to look like one, but I have left the interior the original white, just painting the outside the Savannah Beige with a lotus white roof. I have added the deluxe chrome trim to the waistline to make it look as original as possible. Body is rock solid, has had a few small metal repairs, but nothing to write home about and is mostly original.Everything is new underneath including new ball joints, brakes, rear wheel bearings, cv boots, etc. The gearbox is quiet and whine free and the engine is completely new throughout including a line bore, regrouped crank, new Mahle barrels and pistons, rebuild heads, new bearings, seals etc. The engine tin ware has been powder coated, the exhaust and heat exchangers are new, and it has a lovely stainless steel tail pipe. The engine bay was stripped an repainted and the rear firewall also power coated the original colour. There are also four new tyres with wide white wall inserts that look awesome and really add to it’s retro look. The interior is also excellent, with new seat covers and door cards, the Westy seats have all been recovered using the original vinyl material and all it needs is curtains. I was going to buy some, but I think this van now needs a new owner to personalise it?I’ve now got into American trucks, and have a project I’m looking to complete therefore want to sell this to finance it. As the pictures show, it’s really lovely, drives well too. It’s all UK registered, tax exempt and has it’s last mot in October last year…it won’t need another now.

VW Campervan 1973 – Type 2 – Bay Window

….Ruby – Ruby – Ruby!! The sad time to sell my beloved campervan ‘Ruby’ has come. Three children under 5 means time to do anything is a premium, and its not used as much as it should be.It’s been on countless trips including 3 weddings for close family – but she needs a new owner. The basics….1973, German import, 1600cc aircooled refurbished engine, bay window, type 2, Devon style pop-top. Details.Engine – really sweet 1600cc, starts first time every time, and can cruise at 55-60mph all day long. All it needs is oil and fuel. Has that wonderful aircooled bubbly sound we all associated with the ‘vdub’.The engine bay is fairly tidy, including space for the leisure battery. GOOD POINTSBeautiful kitchenette – including 3 gas hob and sink which is powered by a functioning pump and draws from a 3 gallon water tank. This sits above an ample storage cuboard. Small buddy seat with matching leather seat and back, Folds up for space saving. Very comfortable range rover captain seats in the front as seen in photos. Rock and roll bed full size which actually gives me the best sleep ever! It’s quite firm. The best heating system in my opinion, the PROPEX 200 gas powered, with thermostatic adjustment in arms reach of the drivers chair for switching on whilst driving if necessary. It’s a separate heating and air intake system so is very very safe. The devon pop top allows for full height internally which is a dream when cooking. The hydraulic system and canvas are original but in very good condition. Retractable internal hammock which is tidily stored behind a newly made leather cream cover. Really looks lovely and can take a medium sized adult or child comfortably. Lovely steering wheel from a 60’s beetle. 240v hook up with internal safety fuse box including all cables. The body work for age is actually pretty solid. Underneath is very solid and is welcomed to be inspected. The body work when polished is quite eye catching and gives a lovely gleaming finish. All the electrics are working just fine. The gears are remarkably smooth and with the short shift gear lever nice to engage. Also bear in mind vintage car insurance is a fraction of the cost of modern cars! Its tax free – although SORN at the moment.Recent MOT with no advisories. Log book present. Includes a roof rack – needs a second coat of spray. BAD POINTSThere are areas of paint bubbling and paint coming away along the bottom of the sliding door and the two rear fenders. Elsewhere it is actually pretty good. There is no more than surface rush on the metal work. Occasionally the starter motor freezes and you just turn the ignition key a few times and it gets going. Usually happens if not run for a while. There is also a secret bypass wire which gets you out of trouble if needed. Only use straight 30 oil – it doesn’t like any other oil (including a bottle in sale) Look this is not by any means a show piece. I have spent thousands over the 8 years I have had her to improve her look and to keep her happy and running well, including a respray 5 years ago.But there really is minimal maintenance – just oil and spark plugs every 6 months ideally. I need to dig out the service history as it is in storage somewhere. For a running campervan where you can just get in and travel reliably – its great. Currently kept at my parents in Hertfordshire – viewing advisedNo time wasters please or ridiculous offers. I also want her to go to the right home.Any questions please ask.
