VW Bay Window Camper Campervan Volkswagen 1973 NO RESERVE

….1973 Volkswagen Bay Camper, currently 8 months MOT but will come with 12 months MOT for new owner, historic vehicle status (free road tax) This van has had a full restoration, the pictures do not do it justice, it needs to be seen to be appreciated. It has completed only 500 miles since being restored, fully road tested and is ready to go. The van has had extensive metal work and panels replaced to bring it back to its fomer glory – Localised repairs to the chassis Front panel replacedBoth front arches replacedBoth front inner arches repairedO/S belt mount repairedN/S full seat tub replacedN/S cab floor replacedAll outriggers replacedAll jacking points replacedBoth inner sills replacedBoth outer sills replacedBoth rear arches replacedAll rear tub closing panels replacedBoth battery trays replacedRear valance replacedEngine lid hinge panel replacedSliding door bottom replacedDry state import cab doorsBrand new engine lidDry state import tailgate The van is now solid once again, and will be for a very long time. The running gear has also been taken care of having – Refurbished brakes on all four corners New brake master cylinderAll new copper brake linesAll new brake flexi hosesNew handbrake cables Four new shock absorbers New gearbox oil and input seal New track rods New steering drag linkNew anti roll bar and bushesNew steering couplingPorsche Fuchs 15″ alloysFull set of extended wheel studs to accomodate the alloysNew Hancook tyres It steers and stops just as it should do……..but what about the thing making it go? The engine, this particular unit is a 1600cc twinport and has been stripped back to a bare casing and rebuilt, leaving no stone unturned, and nothing unchecked, to ensure there are years of happy motoring ahead – Cases cleaned internally and externallyOil pressure relief valves testedCasings heat tested for cracksOil galleries cleanedCrankshaft dial tested & journals polisedAll internal bearings replacedCamshaft replacedNew barrells and pistonsReconditioned cylinder headsNew oil pump Refurbished genuine Solex carburettor Genuine Bosch Germany distributorAll new ignition components throughoutAll fuel lines replaced with Codan hose (which is resistant to the ether content of modern fuel, unlike most others) In addition to the engine rebuild, the engine also has a few carefully selected upgrades to maintain reliability. An electronic ignition means no more checking and resetting of those troublesome points, and best of all – starts first time every time! The other is an electric fuel pump with safety cut off. Why is that a reliability upgrade? So, back when these vans were being manufactured, the standard push rod fuel pump was more than adequate….but, fast forward to 2018 and the ether content in fuel will cause the pump diaphragm to breakdown over time and split, leaking fuel into the mains of your engine, which is seriously detrimental. So thats the metalwork, running gear and engine sorted, what’s going to keep you comfortable on your travels? The interior is nothing short of a palace on wheels, and well equipped for a quick weekend away or that bigger road trip – Full interior retrim including all seating and trim cardsNew roof bed boards and foam, all retrimmedFour new lifting struts for the roof New smev sink and double hobLots and lots of storage spaceIsland table Alpine stereo and four speaker systemFridge240v site hook upLeisure battery12v aux sockets for Satnavs / phone charging What more could you ask for from the interior of a VW camper? Not alot possibly, however this interior has another trick up its sleeve. A Westfalia style flip seat, which when flipped over creates a much bigger space in the living area, something vans with a swivel passenger seat can only fantasise about! To stop you falling off the seats the interior is equipped with four new seat belts, including two on the rear seat, which are easy to tuck away when not in use. The rock and roll bed is larger than a 3/4 type, but not as long as a full width, so the space down the side can still be utilised for storage, and believe me, that extra bit over a 3/4 length bed is the difference between a good nights sleep, and one where you end up squashed between a shoulder and a cupboard. In addition to the parts previously mentioned, it has also had the following – Door sealsTop quality German window sealsRear lightsFront indicatorsHeadlamp rimsNumber plate lamp Front badgeMirrorsRadio aerialWipersDoor handlesPop top edge trimRoof vent with fly screen There are bound to be some things I have missed as there is so much of it, so if there are any questions, or anything you would like to know please don’t hesitate to ask. In short – it needs nothing and is ready to take you wherever you want to go. Viewing welcomed. Contact from winning bidder MUST be made within 48 hours of auction end. Vehicle MUST be paid for in full and collected within 7 days of auction end. Collection preferred, however delivery may be possible, but please enquire first.
