VW Bay Window weekend camper

Please take Pablo to a festival soon!

….I grew up with vw’s and for many years wanted to design my own. A few years ago I got the chance to do just that working with Morecambe and Wize – the ideas were mine, the technical work was theirs. The result was Pablo, a truly colourful bus that brings a smile to all who see him. The very special parts that make this bus unique are…The colours! The outside was stripped down to the metal and resprayed with magenta and orange (my choice) and inside every one of the 7 seats is a different colour – making a rainbow. The side panels of the bus were also in these colours (see the pics). The lights. The wooden ceiling is fitted with 7 led spots arranged in the constellation of Orion – so even if it is cloudy outside you can still camp under the stars! The extra drawer in the very back (under the rock and roll bed) made to store paintings safely.Everything was fitted to the highest possible standard – the full restoration cost £30,000 – including: RHD conversion, reconditioned engine; fully reconditioned manual gearbox; all new electrics including a TOAD alarm and immobiliser; seat belts to all the seats (including the side facing seats); front passenger swivel seat to make things more sociable when you stop; chrome bumpers and front badge – I don’t like black very much; extra oil guage on the dash; wood effect flooring; table that can be stashed away with a special clip under the back seat to stop the post rattling around; pioneer radio with speakers in the front and the back; a rock and roll bed and fittings for the curtains. It did have curtains but I wanted to keep something of Pablo for the next bus so I have left just the fittings ready for you to choose/make your own. After this I continued to add to the details myself. First the steering wheel (made from the same fabric as the seats) which was quite a challenge but the result is not only the full artists colour wheel but also feels nice to hold. Then I covered the glove box with the same seat material and painted the handle. I found some chrome windscreen wipers and chrome and wood handles for the windows. I also made an iphone dock in the ash tray which fits an old iphone – if this is not your phone it should be easy to change.Pablo has now come of age and is TAX FREE!!Lastly and very importantly, I was not happy with the engine and so have just put in a different, better engine and had it all MOT’d to make sure that it is ready to go.So why am I selling Pablo after all this? Well first I must say that we have had a lot of fun and raised a lot of smiles with this bus. We have not made any super long trips, preferring to stay in the UK. I am an artist, travelling around the countryside to paint and prefer to use a more modern vw for this. I had thought that Pablo would be both a holiday/festival bus and a working bus, but it turns out that a modern vw is better as a travelling studio. I really can’t keep both. So it is time for someone else to enjoy the colours and the fun. If you are going to a festival or on holiday to the beach there could not be a better vehicle. Please contact me with any other questions you may have – I check emails daily and will get back to you swiftly.
