….Welcome to the sale of my prized Custom 1972 VW Campervan (built by Johnston Autoworks). We call him Costa 🙂 This Camper is a rare one-year-only cross-over model. With earlier front end styling, but upgraded brakes and late model rear end, so fitted my requirements perfectly. The Camper underwent a full “back to metal, nut and bolt” restoration incorporating a brand new colour – coded Westfalia style Pop-top (Thanks to – O’Conners Campers). The steering rack was swapped out for “Creative Engineering’s” prototype steering rack convertion. The engine is a fully reconditioned 1600cc lump with colour coded accents with a twin carb set up. Theres no end float and it starts and runs perfectly. A fire-boy automatic engine bay extinguisher system is fitted and a Bluebird stainless steel exhaust system finishes things off nicely. Coloured in Mexico Beige over Sepia Brown. The paint is so deep you can dip your hands into it! I accented the camper with a deluxe trim set with chrome bumpers front / rear and re-chromed mirrors, handles, locks badging and light housings to bring the look together. A Safety Star light on the back bumper is a nice touch. The interior is care of “Tim & Vaughn” (of Custom Classic & Retro Interior Co fame) and I allowed them free range to work their magic and they delivered the goods yet again, covering 2 Porsche Electric seats to match their chosen interior (I particularly love the fat-biscuit style inserts) and the new, but retro-flavoured wooden cabinets. This Camper boasts all of the comforts of home, including a ceiling mounted DVD/TV Player (sound amped via the in-car sound system) Propex Night Heater, 12v and 240v lighting, mains power management system, rock-and-roll flat double bed + pop up double bed “upstairs”, full privacy curtaining, fridge freezer, gas hob and stainless steel sink with powered water tap. The cabin flooring is oak overlayed with a colour-coded carpet (with pop-fixing for easy fitment and removal for shows). All the door rubbers and seals have recently been upgraded and the 4 tyres (and spare) are all virtually new and clad the Replica BRM wheels perfectly. The whole camper is lowered a spline at the rear and wound down a notch at the front with an adjuster in the beam. The handling is vastly improved, without compromising the comfort in my opinion, but is easily returned to standard if required by the new owner. My wife and I really love this campervan and it has wanted for nothing (its even kept in a secure heated garage I had built for Costa and his stablemates) but we have 2 others campervans and we cant drive all 3 at once, so “Costa” has to go. No silly offers please. This camper would cost circa £55k to commission now and Johnston’s Autoworks have a very lonnnngggg waiting list (I waited 3 years for this one to be built). If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on 07730 658906 up to 6pm. Thanks for looking Steve
