VW Campervan T2 Bay – Devon conversion – RHD – 1600cc (1972)

….This is our VW Campervan – Devon Conversion – 1972 – 1600cc I bought this October 2014 after the exterior had been professionally refurbished. At that point, the Camper was effectively a shell and the interior needed fitting out, plus the engine needed bringing up to standard. Over the last 3 years it has done less than 200 miles (have MOT certificates to show the mileage) and that is why I am selling – we are just not using it like I hoped. It has been garaged through-out this time. The van has 5 seats for travelling (all with new seat belts), 2 front, 1 rear facing (folding) and 2 rear seats. The van can sleep 2 as it is and I have hammocks for the roof area (they need some work to get them fitted), taking it to 4 (I planned to use an awning – see below – to sleep in rather than the roof), so it easily accommodates a family of 4/5. The van has just sailed through its MOT – so it has 12 months and is tax-free. Since 2014 and the professional restoration, it has had: – RVTEC fitted furniture (designed for the VW Bay) – units, cupboards & wardrobe;- Waeco Fridge – 240v and 12v system;- Sink & gas hob;- Electric hook-up installed, with leisure battery and 240v/12v system – with related chargers, etc- Rock n Roll bed which was professionally upholstered- New roof seal- Sony Stereo system, with hands-free Bluetooth calling and 4 speakers (which works off the electric hook-up) Mechanically it has had: – after purchase it was independently checked over, serviced and a few sensible repairs made (new accelerator cable, clutch cable, fuel pump, wheel bearings, etc);- over the winter of 2016 it had a top engine re-build – kit provided by JustKampers; and- engine rebuild also included new heat exchangers and exhaust system. So, over the last 3½ years it has had a huge amount of expense outlaid on it and the van now is in excellent condition – ready to get better use out of. I have all the expenses, invoices, etc to support the above, so I know exactly what has been spent on it. There are a couple of areas that need a little more work (which is what to expect with a 40+ year old van): – The underneath is solid and it needs under-sealing – I have the kit for this but I haven’t done it – more to show-off how good it is underneath;- It needs cables for the heat-exchanges (from the exhaust to the the controls on the dashboard) – nothing major;- The engine has an oil-leak which I am convinced is coming from the oil cooler; Other than that, it really is a fantastic example and, from knowing how much I have spent on this, it should be worth close to £20k (if not more). Depending on how well this does in the auction, I may include a roof-rack & drive-away awning – both unused of course(!) and still in their original packaging. I am sure there is more to say, but if you have any questions, please get in touch. With a purchase like this, viewing is highly recommended before bidding – we are based in Leigh, Greater Manchester. Good luck! Andrew
