VW Split Screen Camper Van 1965 RHD Devon Interior Slammed Bus Blue Type 2 T1

….An Original UK, RHD 11 Window Bus with its Original Devon Interior. This bus was built in January 1965, and always destined to be a UK bus. It was built as a RHD bus, imported into the UK and sent straight to Sidmouth in Devon where it was converted to a campervan, with a full Devon Caravette interior installed. It spent most of its life thereafter in Norfolk; being owned by a fisherman whose rods have sliced the original headliner in a few places. It was recommissioned a few years ago by a previous owner, who restored the bottom 12”, and uprated a lot of the mechanicals including Porsche 944 front Disc Brakes. It has since had a rebuilt 1600cc engine, good used 1300 beetle Gearbox, 4” Narrowed Beam, Dropped Spindles, tubbed arches and lots of other usable modifications made. In the time I’ve owned it, it’s been all over the UK and over to Belgium earlier in the year, fully loaded with a couple of mates and loads of camping gear. I’ve just this week returned from a holiday to Cornwall and it performed faultlessly; cruising comfortably at 60mph. This bus has been painted in the original colour scheme of Sea Blue with Blue White over the top. Solid chassis, uprated running gear, plenty of time and money spent making it drive well! Suspension and running gear – 4″ Narrowed & Adjustable front beam with dropped spindles. Steering rack conversion Straight axle conversion at the rear, with T2D adjustable spring plates. Dual circuit brakes with Porsche 944 discs up front. Trailer Queen Restos 32mm tubbed front arches. Fuchs wheels, 4.5” at the front and deep 6” at the rear in chrome. Front opening Safari windows fitted with Monkey Dub seals to keep the rain out. Engine – 1600cc engine Genuine 34 Pict-3 carburettor, original 1600cc manifold. Fuel lines regularly checked, replaced with the correct grade R9 hose. Electronic fuel pump, Malpassi filter king fuel pressure regulator. Pre-1964 vacuum advance dizzy installed; mostly for looks, but it drives superbly and pulls really well up hills. Interior – Original Devon interior, unrestored (wood). The cushions are a later addition, which I don’t think are original Devon items as they aren’t Duracour. Contains the original Devon shaving mirror, magazine rack, Easycolyte, Easicool fridge and Dudley cooker and a Whale pump. Billet aluminum drinks holder for the long road trips down south! Nice original steering wheel Bad bits : Paint is obviously tatty. When I stripped the bus for paint I removed all of the unnecessary filler; I preferred the exposed dents than inches of filler. I reduced the amount of filler around all the old repairs and tidied it up. There are dents around the bus. Bottom of the inner arches are crusty. Bottom of the doors are holed, but since painting 2 years ago they’ve not gotten any worse. During my ownership of the van I have tried to improve the bus with every job I’ve done; either aesthetically or in function. It has had a great deal of time and money spent in the process. Located in Nuneaton, 10 mins off of Jct3 M6
