VW Westfalia camper van

….This is Trixi, she’s nearly 41 years young and a faithful friend. Sadly changing needs mean it’s time for her to find a new home. She lived most of her life in Germany and was imported to the UK in the mid 2000s. I’ve owned her since 2009. MOT until June 2018. Built in 1976 she’s a Westfalia and from what I can tell would have originally been the Helsinki variant. This means it has the full width rock and roll bed which gives plenty of space to sleep two adults downstairs, plus a full width bed in the pop top for another two adults (or kids who love it up there!). Both are really comfy. The original westy fabrics are in great condition for their age, and have many years more life in them. There are curtains all round. The roof lining in the cab had been replaced with wooden veneered slats at some point before I bought it which is a nice touch but the veneer has lifted in a few places. There are lots of original fittings. Previous owners over the years have modified the layout a little to suit their needs so there’s a larger cupboard up front with a vented gas bottle carrier and pipe work for water along with storage for food, pots and pans. A flip up dining table, original wardrobe with shelving, and original overhead cupboard all in really nice condition. There’s a two burner stove under a flip top surface and a three way fridge (not used for a few years and needs a service). There’s also a floor mounted radiant heater – I haven’t used it for some time and obviously with a vehicle of the his age I’d recommend getting an expert to check it before use. There’s also mains electrical hookup, charging circuit and wiring for a leisure battery (although I’ve never used one). Up top the roof works nicely, has a skylight/vent and had a new canvas fitted last year. Up front are a pair of really comfy SAAB leather seats (I also have the seats that were fitted beforehand in the garage and they’ll be included in the sale). Body wise she’s pretty solid and clean but does need a bit of tidying to make her tip top. The worst is the sliding door, which has rusted and now needs the bottom section replacing – the repair panels are readily available and cost about £40 from memory. The windscreen surround has developed some rust, and there’s some seam rash around the van. Have a look at the photos or best of all come and see it. I had her undersealed when I bought her so the underneath’s been well protected, although would benefit from a top up in a few places. Mechanically she’s a 1600 with single Solex carb and Pertronix electronic ignition. She drives well, the engine is strong (description by a specialist who I asked to check it over last year), the steering’s sharp (for a T2!) and the gear change is clean. She also has rare servo assisted brakes which pull her up well. The battery was replaced last year. I have a pair of new RHD headlights ready to be fitted (never got round to it, the LHD ones are legal with blanking on). She’s an honest van, nothing hidden and with a little TLC would look fantastic and fill your life with happy memories and adventures. Sad to see her go, she’s so full of character.
